My Resolution: Part One

So, it's been a bit since New Year's, but my resolution was so complex it took some organization. So here I am, 2 weeks later blogging about it.

A major thing I hate about myself is my lack of motivation in the kitchen. I have never been that great of a cook, and was not cooked for growing up. So I am always stumped in the kitchen and usually just give up. This year, I decided that my New Year's Resolution would be to become a better cook. And in essence, a better wife and mother.

In becoming a better cook, there were a few things that I had to change, or rather that I am still working on changing. The first thing I had to change, and the subject of my blog today is where I grocery shop. Now if you know me well, you will know that I am a frugal lady. Any way to stretch a dollar. With Noah eating solids, our food bill has gone up and we have really had to pinch pennies. Which has forced me to be a Winco girl. Unfortunately, quality food is not their motto. So I have decided to challenge myself to be a coupon clipper. And to shop at Safeway.

Cool thing a friend taught me about Safeway. You can go online and type in your zipcode which will give you all the weekly specials in your area, and also the coupons. You can actually load it onto your Safeway club card so that when you go shopping, all you have to do is scan your card through. You don't have to go through the hassle of actually cutting out the ads. Virtual coupon clipping is AMAZING!

So to begin step one of a 3 step process of becoming a better cook, I took the plunge yesterday and started shopping at Safeway. We loaded the cart with things that I had deligently searched through coupons for and then we went with what the weekly specials were. I was impressed with how well we did. Of course, for the box things we still ended up at Winco, which made for a REALLY LONG day with 2 toddlers. But I kept telling myself it was worth it. And I really hope it is.

Today I impliment Step 2 of my 3 step plan. I'll blog on that tomorrow.

Dawg: The Bargain Hunter

Some would call me cheap, I prefer the term "thrifty".

When I found out that I was going to have to buy a SECOND crib and changing table, I really worried about where the money would come from. Since October I have made it my mission to find the best quality things for the nursery at discount prices.

The first 3 months were torturous, but lately I have found some amazing deals. I checked out a store on Bechelli Lane that sells brand new scratch and dent cribs and changing tables at really great rates. And we were able to buy a cute crib and changing table that I love for very affordable prices.

Ofcourse, craigslist and ebay have been my constant companions and I have found some excellent things for the boys' rooms. I've even been working on creative and inexpensive craft projects to make accents for their walls.
I guess you can spend a ton of money on a kid's room and it come out really nice, but I personally find it much more gratifying to buy quality things at discount prices. I think it not only helps your budget, but it forces you to be creative in ways you never knew you could!

I'll keep updates with pictures on the rooms once they get closer to completion.

Thoughts on time-outs

Why did God design time-outs?
I am pretty sure.... it's more for the mommies than the kids.

Mom tip #29

I'm just a mom of a toddler, but I have found these target baby wipes to be my savior and I wanted to share. Now I know what you're thinking... wipes, wow that's ingenious like I've never heard of those before. But I have found them to be so very useful for everything.

So my main problem was bibs. I could not clean them fast enough, or get the icky stains off of them... ever. I was having to buy new bibs all of the time and it was really getting expensive and annoying. One day, because I had ran out of clean bibs, I tried using the one of these Target wipes as a bib- Bingo! I totally use wipes as bibs now at every meal. I just tuck it under his chin and he can get as messy as he wants. At the end, I just fold it, and then wipe his face with it. Sometimes, I have an extra one just in case it gets too messy. But I have found them to be just as effective as bibs, and way easier to clean.

So I take these Target travel wipes with me everywhere I go. They're also really great at wiping gross stuff off of casts- if you ever need to know that. The best part about this? A pack is $1.99. Not bad on the pocketbook.

Any other moms out there that have good mom tips? I encourage you to blog them. It would be great to have new ideas.
