THE CRAFT LADY

I have never really been a crafty person. Sure I could put together a scrapbook page, or write a song, but I have never been able to be patient enough to excel in the art of making fine things. My mother was always amazing at turning a tablecloth into a wedding dress using 5 pins, or creating a beautiful centerpiece out of things from our backyard. Growing up, if I ever got frustrated with doing something, I would just turn it over to her and have her fix it. Which she inevitably did, and never took credit for.

I have always wanted to have that gift. So naturally, when I helped my friend Jenny throw a baby shower for Nichole, I had all these amazing creative ideas. But there was a problem: I wasn't crafty.

After much debate, and spending countless nights convincing myself to try, I ended up making a diaper cake. I was surprised with how much patience I had and how meticulous I could be given the creative freedom to do so. Then, I gained more confidence and decided to make a corsage too.

It truly was a beautiful shower. Jenny made the most incredible fondant cake and the decor and everything was awesome. But I think it was surprising to me just how creative I could be with a little more confidence in myself, and not having the safety net of my mother to come up behind me and fix my mistakes. I hope one day I can be that mommy that can make anything using 5 pins and a tablecloth.

You did an amazing job, Erin. That diaper cake made the shower! Everyone loved it. Well done my friend.

That is awesome. and four tiers that is even more impressive. Love the colors too!

Yeah, I never made a 4 tier-er. I made 2-fer one time, and even that didn't hold. So I ended up using a glue gun which we found out doesn't allow the Mom-to-be to actually USE them once the shower is over. But you live and learn, right?

No denying you have the family 'creative' genes Erin! Beautiful cake and corsage and love the colors. I would love to 'borrow' your ideas if you don't mind. Awsome...the secret's out now....!!
