Star Wars Room DIY Part One

It's been about 2 years since I bought a few toy story stickers and put them up on the boy's wall in their room and I decided we needed a room makeover and a more mature theme. This year is all about Star Wars for them. They have the toys, the lightsabers and re-enact all the scenes from the movies. It was a natural fit for a room they share.

It's far from being finished, but I thought I would give you a sneak peek on some of the things I've been working on so far. I first turned to pinterest to find inspiration. And boy did I find some. So many color schemes and ideas. But a lot of ideas had to do with bedding. It seems that most people buy a $150 star wars bedding set from Pottery Barn and call it a day. Personally, I feel like that lacks a lot of creativity and with my walls being white, I wanted to do something more creative, without having to paint.

First I hit up amazon and found the star wars title in black vinyl. It was a must-have, and at only $4...a steal!
Next I found some amazing r2d2 and c3p0 art that I just had to use.

Also I fell in love with this caution children at play sign which I intend to put a lightsaber holding station under in the future. Stay tuned.

I'm super excited about this amazing Millenium falcon print I found while cruising pinterest. I printed it out on regular paper and cut the sides then I went to work. I had an old children's toy that wasn't being used anymore and ended up being perfect as a box frame, so I painted the outside of it black then I dug through the kid's fingerpaints and mixed and matched and did a sort of messy painting that I incorporated as a background.

*Note, painting is NOT my thing. I stink at it. But this project requires the talent of about a 6-year-old level, so it worked in my advantage. Next I just took the picture I printed and did a simple decopauge to it. I added water to the decopauge solution to make the paper look more worn and vintage. And viola: a $0 project with little work that ended up being awesome.

This is just a taste of what I've been up to lately. Next week I'll share with you the pillowcases, curtains and the coveted lightsaber curtain rod (complete with tutorial). Stay tuned!
