Re-thinking Pink

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I'm just wondering how you petition to get a month? It's not that I don't think Breast Cancer Awareness month isn't great, it's just that I am not fully comfortable with an NFL announcer on national television telling me to go out and get a mamogram. It feels a bit invasive.

I think that there should also be a Testicular Cancer Awareness month where people spend the entire month talking about getting your testicles checked and how important it is. Then maybe MEN can feel as uncomfortable as women feel in October.

The reason you see so much pink in October is because women fight for the cause. They walk and run in memory of a loved one or for them, as a survivor. They keep it in the media, they purposely draw attention to it so that women will go for that mammagram. I was diagnosed at 29, went through hell in treatment. At 41 it has returned and so I am putting up the good fight once more. I felt honored to see all the pink in the NFL. It takes a real man to wear pink lol. They weren't telling you to go get a mammagram. They were reminding you to take care of yourself and honoring those who have been through it.
