Mommy tales: the case of the messy eater

So yesterday morning was a typical morning for us. We started our routine like every other day. I woke up and got his oatmeal ready, then got him up, put on some clean clothes, sat him in his chair and started to feed him. As the meal progressed, I began to feel the pangs of morning sickness and quickly retreated to the bathroom. I was having a particularily long bout of throwing up (about 5 or 6 minutes) and I was sure that he was going to be upset at me for interrupting his meal like that. But I was surprised at how oddly quiet he was, and I continued to be sick. It wasn't until I came out of the bathroom that I realized just WHY he had been so quiet.
I turned the corner to find my little boy covered from head to toe in oatmeal. On his toes, on his eyelashes, in his ears, all over the front of his shirt and pants and each arm was covered in an especially thick paste. The best part, a huge grin from ear to ear. How could I not smile?
It's been difficult to get him to use his hands for things, so I should have been thrilled that he had stuck his hand in his oatmeal and smeared it all over his clean clothes.... right? Well that's what his occupational therapist said. I didn't have enough time (or energy) to get the camera just then and am kicking myself now.
But tonight, I decided to try spaghetti with him. Mommy got a bit smarter this time and took off his clothes first. I thought you would be interested in the results.I don't know how much actually got into his mouth, but he sure had fun playing with it!
