The Matchy Matchersons

So, just the other day I had the distinct pleasure (or rather severe angst) of attending the annual TFC Staff Christmas Banquet. I made the usual rounds, smiled as best as I could and remembered to use the salad fork.

While sitting at my table engaged in a very forgettable conversation with a complete stranger, I happened upon a rather odd couple. It was a husband and wife that matched eachother from head to toe. He was wearing a light pink shirt with a pink tie and kacky pants, she was wearing a pink sweater and a kacky skirt. I scanned down to their shoes- identical pairs of brown golfing shoes. Their jackets, hanging on their chairs, were both kacky and made with identical material. Could this all simply be a fortunate coincidence?? I THINK NOT. This was the TFC matching couple.

Upon further reflection, I recalled first seeing them at the coffee shop a few months back. They both walked in with blue jeans, TFC shirts and matching GAP hats. I thought they had finished volunteering for the college, or maybe accidentally wore the same thing, or maybe for kicks they thought it would be fun to wear the same thing one day. But this, I was informed, was a regular everyday occurence. Appearantly their ability to always appear color-coordinated, through all seasons, everyday is widely accepted and often complimented throughout the community. No one seemed to notice how completely eccentric this was, nor how much they stood out. Maybe that was their intent.

Whatever the reason, I still find myself wondering: What kind of people get their jollies from dressing alike? Is it an anal retentive thing? What happens when they wake up one morning and realize that they forgot to wash one of the matching blue shirts, or better yet what happens when one of them just isn't in a  "pink" mood?

I guess these are just a few of the many complex questions posed in life. Perhaps I'll never know, and I certainly will never understand, but I can't help but look to see what they'll wear next!
