I recently watched the movie Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy. And while I did not find it particularily stimulating, it did seem to pose a question I had to really consider, " What's the meaning of life?"
I could be super spiritual and say how our lives are meant to simply glorify the Lord, but is that real? I mean, do we get up in the morning, sure of what our lives really mean, and say, " All I'm gonna do today is just glorify the Lord." In my experience, No.
Being an adult, I have come to find that my life consists of just a few things: Going to work, making dinner, doing the laundry, going to sleep at a reasonable hour. In between that, I try to make my life fun. But in reality, my life, as I am sure most people's lives are, is about making money. It is a grim reality, but it's true. We make money, we pay bills, and if we're lucky we have just enough to give ourselves a little fun. But what if this were a Utopian society and money and bills and taxes didn't exist? What then would our lives be about?
There wouldn't be a race to become something meaningful, there wouldn't be competition about who's the most succesful, there wouldn't be power or control. I guess then, in reality, if these things did not exist our lives truly would be about praising the Lord and glorifying his name. Of course then there would be competition in that, cause afterall we are human.
I guess where I am going with this is, sometimes we have to look at our lives and remember what the heck we're here for. I am not on this planet to have a good credit score, or to get a week's paid vacation, or for bonuses or commission. I am simply here for the glorification of Christ. That's it. That's all, I am meaningless otherwise.
In that case, lately, I have been really really meaningless.
