Barbie Holder using upcycled baby blankets

Olivia got a set of Barbie Princess dolls for Christmas and I'm not sure who loves them more, me or her. But the real problem has been how to fit them into her room. The older this kid gets, the less room she seems to have for things and space is limited. So I've really been trying to think of creative organization in her room.

Recently, I was going through some of her old baby things and I came acrossed a beautiful carseat cover that a friend made for her. I simply couldn't part with it, but what was I going to do with it? Let it collect dust? So I sat and pondered for a while, and came up with the idea of upcycling it. I had seen on pinterest the idea of using a shoe organizer as a Barbie holder. But I had also seen it in practical use and most of the time, the Barbies would fall out of it. It needed to be tight, Barbie fitted. So I came up with the idea of costum-fitting it.

I also just adored this baby blanket that she used and had so many fond memories of but now couldn't fit her. So I measured her Barbie, making room for things like shoes and crowns, but not too much room so that it would fall out and not stay. And I cut the blanket into 9 equal rectangles. I absolutely loathe the sewing machine, and will avoid it at all costs, So I took the time to handstitch each rectangle onto the base blanket. Making sure to reinforce the top and bottom corners (keeping in mind that a two year old wouldn't always be so careful not to rip or tear the fabric).

I added already made cuffs for the top holders (though I'm sure just pinning it to the wall would work just fine as well). And voila, a custom-made Barbie holder with meaningful material. Cost= $0!

She loved the freedom to be able to put the Barbies away and take them out whenever she wanted without any help. I loved that it was a cute way to organize her very tiny room. A win-win.
