Today I had the pleasure of going to the Camp Toccoa Reunion. For those of you who don't know, Camp Toccoa was a training facility that hosted the top airborne divisions. It was here, in Toccoa, where Band Of Brothers were first a division, and where Private Ryan was trained.
On this day of special days you could see flags waving and veterans aglow. The one thing that I found particularily interesting was the Ceremony. Members of the United States Military were on hand to demonstrate air tactics. And as they stood proudly waiting for the ceremony to begin, they took their hats off and listened to the National Anthem being sung.
A young man got up and began to sing the first few lines- then he promptly stopped and exclaimed "I forgot the rest". After what seemed like hours of complete silence, he went for his second attempt... and again failed to remember. My dad, husband and I began singing in the back to help the kid out (because we could be there all day if we didn't) and the anthem was finally finished.
I tried to hold in my screams of laughter because I too have forgotten words to songs when singing in front of people. However, this was the wrong song to forget in front of the wrong crowd of people.
God Bless the USA!!!
