An office makeover

When I came home from my 5 week stay in Georgia, I found that there was a drumset in my livingroom. I had given Tim the set 2 years before, and he never really felt inspired or comfortable enough to play it in the garage. So while I was gone, he set it up and played until his heart was content. Since I'm a firm believer in giving my man the ability to make his dreams come true, and have good hobbies, I decided to let the drumset stay in our livingroom. But this meant, that I was going to have to move our home computer.

I kept thinking of where I could put it, and no other space felt right except the diningroom. I wanted to make a nice space for the computer, but I also wanted to make it look cute. So I went to work garage saleing to see what I could find.

I happened upon this diamond in the rough of a computer desk, it was the very low price of: FREE. While my husband saw spider eggsacks and pen writing all over the top of it, I saw a small and cute replacement desk that had some great "bones".
He scratched his head and walked away. I had a plan though.

I also found the most amazing frame. If you know me at all, you know I HATE clutter. And with Elijah going into Kindergarten this year, I was searching for a giant frame that I could put all those pesky reminder papers and homework reminders they always seem to send home. I found this frame at a garage sale for $5, and decided it would be perfect as a pinboard to make clutter pretty.
So I bought 4 cans of spray paint (2 primer cans and 2 regular vaspar cans) and got to work on BOTH of these projects.

After painting the frame and desk, I felt I needed to add some fabric to the drawers and to cover the push pin marks. So I went to the fabric store and bought 2 yards of fabric for $14.
After a few hours, I decided to add some matching curtains using the extra fabric I had left. If you know me at all, you know that I have a phobia of sewing machines. But I elected to put down the glue gun for this one and in no time flat I had a new office:
I painted the board Tiffany's blue and it turned out great.
I added fabric to the drawers to give it a more modern look.

So not the greatest picture. But there you have it, a new office: desk, curtains pinboard and even a matching mousepad for $33. And I'm one happy lady.

Oh my word -- we have an almost identical desk that also came completely with spider egg sacks and a graffiti'd top! We paid $5, but it's seriously so cute now that it's been painted!!

Great job, Erin. Man, you really are frugal. Next step: BICHOK. Keep on writing!
