Okay, I hope to not offend anyone, but I simply cannot let it go for one more second without addressing an extremely important topic:
What is the deal with "LOL" ?
I mean, is the point you are trying to get across not funny enough that you have to insert your own laugh track? When people don't respond to your online "humor" with a LOL... do you get offended?
I think LOL is a term we have come to use for overcompensation. Let's get real here people: are you really laughing out loud? Because I am thinking about 95f the time we use this, we are NOT laughing at all.. not even a hint of a chuckle. And do you realize just how much you say this. Every 5 seconds it's "LOL" this or "LOL" that, it has literally become a sickness; a sort of gap filler between sentences. Come on people, can we not think of intelligent things to say? Does everything have to be so friggin' hilarious? And when something is actually funny, it's like you can't say LOL because it's not heartfelt enough. No, now you actually have to say a sentence: That was soooo hilarious!
And if you're making a joke, putting the J/K seems to let everyone know that, this is the punch line. I am amazed at what people put J/K with. Like it's not even a joke anymore, it could be a random statement. You could say: I'm going to kill myself today and if you added a j/k, that would make it okay. I wonder what the world would be like if we could use these little annoying letters in everyday life. You could go to an airport terminal, and have your baggage go through security. While walking through the metal detector, you could mention how you are going to put a bomb on the plane you are going on and blow up half of the airport.... and then say: "J/K". The security officer would then turn to you and reply: "LOL".
